Madison Ave. Trickery

Got to love the new Snicker’s Ads!

Random Update

Things have been a little limp around here.  Oh yeah, you got to love sex/booze/penis/genital references.  It’s been pretty calm the past few weeks.  Just doing my thing at work and making sure every Wednesday is Business Time.  Couple things are sticking out in my mind:

Server 2008: I am somewhat excited about this product.  It’s got some cool new features, IP6, and something new; a new core version.  The core version does everything its brother does but without a GUI.

Roger Goodell:  I’m digging what the new NFL commissioner is doing.  He’s bringing his pimp hand to deal with discipline issues and he’s bringing something that’s been missing in team sports: team!  First of all, I like the fact that he is forcing all NFL teams to vote for a captain.  What really moved me thought is his advocacy for recently injured Kevin Everett.  While Kevin is resting in Texas he has strongly recommended that Houston Texan’s adopt Kevin as a teammate.  Considering that this guy just had his life changed in a matter of seconds, having a group to of guys to hang with is essential.  The fact that Roger did it without thinking twice or "due to public outcry" show’s me this guy is worth his salt.

Rolling Stone: I’ve always loved Rolling Stone.  If your into music and politics, its a must have.  Their coverage recently has raised an already high bar.  As an atheist Republican, it kills me to say it: The Republican Party today is corrupt.  To my knowledge, nobody other major media outlet is covering this corruption as accurately as Rolling Stone.

Half Ass’ed NFL

The one thing that could be the most important thing in my life is also the most frustrating thing: NFL Supercast.  First of all, let me say to the NFL: What took you so long?  MLB.com started to stream all out of market games a couple years ago and they service rocks.  Both  the video and audio are clear and reliable.  If your a *Boston fan living in SF, this is the best service in the world.

So the technology is there but the NFL was always to entrenched with existing agreements to do something.  Ah, but this is a new Commissioner and a new era.  Well, not completely.  In order to receive Supercast you first have to be a DirecTV Sunday Ticket subscriber, roughly $250.  On top of that, to get the Supercast steam of games, you need to drop another $99.  Luckily, I know somebody who has Sunday Ticket and I had $99 sweet dollares!

Yesterday was the first time I got to try out the service.  Friends, let me say this, when it works I cry.  I was able to hop from game to game viewing the action live along with up to the minute stats.  Game breaks, fuck those.  I am the game break.

Now the downside, when it buffers its like running out of meth in a Oregon trailer park: you start tweaking.  I logged in around 9am and things were going too until 10:30am.  for the next hour I kept trying to re-sign in.  From time to time I would get in but as soon as I tried to skip games, it would buffer.  Things were so bad with the site that I couldn’t even send a nasty comment to DirecTV since their comment section was down.

By the afternoon things looked a little better.  After 1pm I was able to sign-in at will and toggle games.  Unfortunately, only the die hard fans sticker around for afternoon games after their team managed to win despite themselves (49ers 2-0).  Still, only one week into the experiment.  at 2pm I was able to send my oh so nasty feedback.  Hopefully DirectTV will follow MLB’s lead and make a serviced that is not only cool, actually works.

*Little Note: I am not a Boston fan.  To be frank, I am not a huge fan of the city, its teams or people.  In my book, Curt Shilling made a deal with the devil to get the Babe out of **purgatory.

**Little Note II: I am a staunch Atheist
